Hand colored antique botanical copperplate engraving from England, in very good condition. We are pleased to offer this print of the Storax-Leaved Podalyria (Podalyria Styracifolia) from the Curtis Botanical Magazine first published by William Curtis beginning in 1787. This engraving is Plate #1580, dated September 1, 1813, drawn by S. Edwards and engraved by F. Sansom. Mr. Curtis was a trained pharmacist living in London, whose greater interest was the study of flora and insects. He maintained a large garden where he grew beautiful exotic plants. Highly collectible, and increasingly hard-to-find in this condition; this botanical engraving still has the original vivid coloration. Guaranteed authentic 188 year-old engraving on rag paper. There is a small, one inch wrinkle in the paper of this print that does not detract from the beauty and color of this flower (at the bottom through the "Sept" date).
