The orchard mason bee (Osmia lignaria) is a gentle beneficial insect and is a pollinator of many types of fruit trees, including, apples, plums, cherries, raspberries, strawberries, squash, tomatoes and more.
It can almost be called "stingless" as they will not sting unless handled roughly or trapped between clothing and skin.
With the honeybee under pressure from the insidious Varroa mite, many beekeepers have given up the craft. Fruit and vegetable growers need to find an alternative and efficient pollinator which can be used to complement the honeybee as a managed pollinator.
The docile Blue Orchard Bee, Osmia lignaria, is just the bee to do the job.
These come as pupae inside a cardboard straw tube that fits into your mason bee house (purchased separately).
Just remove one of the straws from the house and replace with the one filled with pupae.
If you are an orchard grower, or have fruit trees, these are a great addition to your other natural pollinators such as honey bees. Watch the boost in your fruit production.
6 Bee pupae per tube, 2 tubes per order. (12 bees).
Live insects, snails, worms and mites may only be shipped within the Continental United States (may not be shipped to Hawaii)
